This is the world's most expensive tattoo and is valued at 924,000 US dollars. 8 hours was spent having 612 diamonds (.5 carats each) attached to her skin. The tattoo is worn by South African model (and brand ambassador of Shimanski Jewellers) Minki van der Westhuizen.

  14. International model and brand ambassador for Shimansky, Minki van der Westhuizen, (pictured) was recently "tattooed" using 612 Shimansky Ideal Cut ™ diamonds of .5 carats each for the world's most expensive tattoo valued at R7.2 million.

The diamonds used in the design were individually applied onto Minki's body taking a total of 8 hours to complete.

A water based adhesive was specially formulated to allow the diamonds to securely adhere to the skin for a limited period, thereafter enabling the formula to be dissolved off.

Shimansky made the news a few years ago when they created a diamond studded lingerie set worth over R1 million for one of it's customers, so unusual requests are nothing new to this luxury jeweller.

Shimansky is currently exploring the potential idea of designing and retailing luxury diamond tattoos across the eight local and four international Shimansky stores.

Other A-list clients include: Charlize Theron, Bill Clinton, Christina Aguilera, Lee Ryan, and many more.

  15. what dermal anchors?? I worked at a tattoo shop, that's all they are. It's like a post with a flat back, a small incision is made and it's the flat back is slid underneath the skin. Not a tattoo at all.

  16. i agree it's be-dazzled. :P that's so awkward though and when it falls off wouldn't she have like dents in her body?? its just weird and if its not permanent (like destry said) why would you even do it like whats the point 2months, 1year [however long] of glamor? 924, 000 dollars wasted

  18. I think they're anchors, and if they are, depending on how deep they put them, they may not fall out at all. Some anchors have to be surgically removed because of how deep they've been inserted. If they do fall out, however, she could always sell the diamonds and make most of her money back. Most of the money went towards the diamonds, not actually inserting them.

  19. what if they all fall out that would be hilarious XD

  20. that must've hurt

  21. it IS a tattoo. u people r retared and think its a piercing because it looks like its popping out.
THATS WHY IT WAS EXPENSIVE. its like a pop-out paining. its supposed to look 3D

  22. Its a frikkin Piercing dumb ass! Its called an anchor piercng, but in her case she just got a bunch of em, google it..

  23. You guys are all idiots. It's not a dermal piercing. Read the looongg comennt. It was a water based adhesive to make the diamonds stick. So, no it's not a piercing, no I wouldn't count it as a tattoo either, but they called it a tattoo because it's a design, where as a piercing would just be one.

  24. They are melted to the skin. It's not a piercing.

  25. it looks so pretty, and i have no idea what that is but its not a piercing or a tat, and yes that would obviously hurt

  26. They just turned her into an arts and crafts project.

  27. Just for the record it is a tattoo they now have lasors that make it raise above the skin now... so yeeah it is a tattoo

    ReplyDelete
  28. there is no ink...so its not a tattoo. and there are piercings without holes its called a dermal u dumbass

    ReplyDelete
  29. man you guys need life all you lol

    ReplyDelete
  30. OK.
PEIRCINGS go through the skin. TATTOOS are scratched into the skin with INK. THERE IS NO INK HERE. I doubt they used some sort of diamond-pen to scratch the diamonds in, and even then they'd have to be punched in like plugs (plugs get punched through your ear when you first start). That this is EITHER is debatable, but it certainly is expensive body art.
    Hear that?
    It's not a peircing, it's not tattoo,
    its BODY ART.

  31. PS - dermals have holes, otherwise how is the jewelry outside attached?
    dumbass.

  32. okayy this aint a piercing or a tattoo... its not even a dermal... i work in a piercing studio and learning to tattoo...
its body art, just like suicide.kittens has said....
tbh i also think its stupid wasting all that money on something that will soon fall off...
if you want body art that aint pierced or inked into the skin... get branded... i did :)

  34. this is cool and exactly what ^ said

  35. I do not think that is a very smart idea, you would have to be very careful in bed for the reason that dimaonds cut

    ReplyDelete
  36. its stupid and theres no point if ur just going to take it off soon and its a waste of money unless ur going to sell them for more than u paid-lol- but otherwise its just ridiclous and shes just going to be in pain till they come off and if she wanted permanence she should just get a tattoo or a brand or something and she will blind someone ..lol

    ReplyDelete
  37. lol nearly everyone that commented on this is a douche. the long comment clearly says that they used a glue to attach the diamonds for a limeted period of time. good work guys.
